Biography

Daniel Thompson has spent the last 10 years touring nationally as the singer and co-creator of one of Australia’s most acclaimed and respected tribute shows, Johnny Cash The Concert, as well as being the creator and driving force behind Legends Long Lunch which, at it’s inception in 2009, instantly became one of the not-to-be-missed shows at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and has since become an annual festival institution.

Seen as a versatile and respected singer and entertainer amongst his peers as well as a talented and acclaimed performer amongst fans, Daniel is a graduate of the Country Music Association of Australia’s College of Country Music, as well as being a multiple-award winner.

Growing up surrounded by the beaches, rivers and national park of Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, both his parents were working musicians. His earliest memories are of Mum and Dad going off to a gig on Saturdays and band practises in the lounge room on Sundays.

Always surrounded by music, his childhood was filled with the sounds of the 60’s British invasion, classic country music , Rock and Roll and classic rock from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. He counts himself as lucky that music was never divided into genres during his childhood. It was just great singers with great musicians performing great songs. It was an invaluable school for this future performer.

More than anything Daniel thinks of himself as a music fan with a true passion for great songs, singers and musicians, as well as the background and stories from the music business.

Now a veteran of more than 25 years in the entertainment industry, he feels fortunate and grateful that he continues to make a living doing what he loves.
