Art Vargas’ life is about performing. As a child growing up in Detroit, Michigan, a.k.a. Motown, Vargas was immersed in a diverse city and absorbed all the multi-cultural influences of the arts surrounding him. The attitude and music of Detroit – rhythm and blues, jazz, and rock-n-roll – all influenced this developing young performer. Early in life, Vargas developed a passion for nostalgia as well as music and films of the 1950s and 1960s. He began collecting recordings by legendary artists of this golden era of entertainment. He listened and watched, emulating television performers and singers of the ’50s and ’60s such as Bobby Darin. This childhood fascination with entertaining became a passion that Vargas pursued, and by the age of eighteen he was singing, dancing, and acting. Through a series of nightclub, television, and radio appearances he further developed and refined his craft while remaining faithful to the style of the legendary entertainers that influenced him.
Shortly after he began performing in Detroit nightclubs, Vargas invited comparisons to Bobby Darin.
